Word Art Stitching
How to add words with your sewing machine to enhance postcards or journal quilts.
word art stitching
Postcard art stitching
Word art is a fun and easy way to add a fun message to your project.  The two examples above were postcards I made for an exchange this summer.  You will either need a sewing machine that can program the words into stitches or hand embroider your words.  Mine were sewn with a machine- keep in mind these were not sewn with the embroidery or monogramming function, but under programmed stitches.

If you are working with an Husqvarna Designer SE  Your SE has block alphabet, outline block alphabet, script alphabet, brushline alphabet, cyrillic alphabet and hiragana alphabet programmed into your machine. In the sewing mode view, select the prog button, then select the alphabet menu next to the stitch menu on the top left hand of the computer screen (the button has a AA). Type in the working that you would like, if you only want your wording to stitch once be sure to select the STOP button, if not the wording will repeat like in my examples above.

Start with a scrap fabric and stabilizer.  Program the words into your sewing machine. I like to sew mine going in different directions for a little extra pizzazz.  After you have stitched in the wording you can go back after and add other designs to your project.  On the top postcard I was trying to illustrate the heat in texas- the morning sun and the hot afternoon sun.  In the bottom postcard I made some free motion flowers.  These are very basic examples, sometimes I like the KISS principal.

My next journal quilt will have words programmed into the SE to be sewn around the quilt onto the bias binding.  I think it will look awesome!
