Sew News Magazine December 2005 Review

I just love this magazine.  It has everything for the avid and beginner sewer.  The patterns are well designed and instructions are well thought out.

One of my favorite sections of this issue was the “Reader Tips”  which included tips on: “sweeping” your sewing room with a large magnet to pick up stray needles, using old prescription bottles to store small items in, and how to repair sewing patterns with fusible interfacing scraps.  Some really great helpful tips.

One of the main focuses in this issue was Plus-size sewing.  The magazine provided tips for sewing plus-size garments.  And for altering commercial patterns to fit more appropriately to your body.  The suggested the following resources for more information: Fabulous Fit by Judith Rasband; Fairchild Press 1994 Fantastic Fit for Every Body by Gale Grigg Hazen; Rodale Press 1998 and several other books.

Some of the craft/sewing patterns and instructions they offered in this issue were adding beads to clothing-ie T-shirts, Scarves and handbags to convert something plain into an fashion trend.  Using 16yh Century technique of Couching to decorate a sweater vest.  Home office desk blotter, memo, board, paper tray and waste basket patterns.  Spa cozy robe pattern made from Minkey dot fabric.  Night-light pattern.  Spar Scrub pattern.  Soap Tray pattern.

The last thing I want to mention is that this issue gives fantastic instructions for making a very trendy Tie- Belt using a Necktie and inexpensive D-Rings.
I highly recommend a subscription to anyone who likes to sew.
