As a member of the Garland Quilt Guild, you can attend/join any of the groups. Friendship groups are a great way to connect with other guild members in a small group setting. Twisted Thimbles Meet the 4th Thursday of each month from 7pm to 9pm at Barbara Cissne's home. Mostly hand sewing, members may take turns having meetings at thier homes. Leader Barbra Cissne Sunday School Class Meet 4th Sunday each month at 10am at Janet Gurley's home. Very informal, work on community projects. Leader Janet Gurley Garland Quilt Guild Purpose: The purpose of the Garland Quilt Guild (GQG) is to bring together people who share a common love of quilting and enable them to participate in community service projects which benefit those in need, while preserving a rich heritage and exploring new expressions of the art of quilting through education. The Garland Quilt Guild seeks to be a respected organization, known for its activities and programs and designed to enrich the lives of others in community. Garland Quilt Guild History: The Garland Quilt Guild was formed in 2005. With Barbara Daniel as our leader, the first meeting was held at Suzy's Quilt Shop in downtown Garland. The plan was that the meeting would be held there until the group out grew the space. There were 78 in attendance at that first meetig (with ladies sitting on the stairs and peaking through the window trying to hear what was happning)- needles to say, a new facility had to be found immediately. Fortunately, First Presbyterian Church in downtown Garland was willing to accommodate our growing group. The Garland Quitl Guild started with 108 charter members and the first year ended with an impresive 136 members. Friendliness, helpfulness, and sharing are the strong points of this group.
