Free shoulder bag crochet pattern.
A fun crochet pattern to make a cute shoulder bag.  The little purse is the perfect size to hold all you essentials when going out at night.  I love this for a little dinner or dancing purse.  I hope you enjoy crocheting the free pattern.  If you have time someday, please email us a photo of your finished purse.  I would love to see it.
Free Shoulder Bag Crochet Pattern

SHOULDER BAG

COATS & CLARK'S "RED HEART" KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply ("Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins): 7 ounces of No. 442 Cranberry.
Crochet Hook, Size I.
Y2 yard each of lining and interlining.
1 yard of imitation leather.
1 button, inches in diameter

GAUGE: 5 sc = 2 inches; 2 rows = % inch.
Be sure to check your gauge before starting bag. Use any size hook which will obtain the stitch gauge above.

NOTE: Use two str.dtds of yarn held together throughout.
Starting at top ed~e of front (under the flap), ch 27 to measure II incheg. 1st row:
Working loosely, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across-26 sc. Ch I, turn.
2nd row: Insert hook in both loops ot first sc and draw up a o/s-inch loop, yarn over hook and complete an sc-Iong sc made;make a long sc in each sc across. Ch I, turn. Repeat 2nd row until total length is 18 inches. Break off and fas·ten. Fold in half to form front and back of bag.

GUSSET (Make 2): Starting at center, ch 20 to measure 51/2 inches. 1st row: Tr in 5th ch from hook, tr in each of next 13 ch, 2 tr in next ch, 5 tr in last ch; then work· ing along opposite side of starting chain, make 2 tr in next ch, tr in next 15 ch.
Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Skip first tr, tr in next 16 tr, 2 tr in each of next 5 tr, tr in next 16 tr, tr in next ch. Break off and fasten. Cut double interlining slightly smaller than bag and guss~ts. Stitch to wrong sides of corresponding pieces of bag. Allowing Y2 inch all around for seams, cut lining material for bag and gussets. Pin one crocheted gusset between back and front edges of bag, with straight edge on top. Working through both thicknesses, work sc along edge of gusset, ch I, turn and work sl st in each sc just made. Break off and fasten. Attach other gusset in same way. Do not break off but work sl st along top edge of bag. Assemble lining and sew inside of bag.

FLAP: Cut 2 pieces of leather, each 6 x 9 inches. With right sides together sew Y2 inch in from edgen leaving 2 inches free for turning. Turn 'right side out and close opening. Sew one -long 'edge to back of bag I Y2 inches from/top edge.

TAB: Cut 2 pieces 0t leather, each 2 x 8 inches. With right, sides together, sew I short and 2 long edges together. Turn right side out. Fold open end in to form a point and sew. Make a 13/4 inch buttonhole (hand or machine stitched) in pointed end. Sew straighend to center back at base of flap. Cover button with leather and sew in place

HANDLE: Cut a strip of leather, 1 1/4 x 40 inches. Fold in thirds the long way and machine stitch down center. Sew one end of handle along center of each gusset, over starting chain.
