Fiber Art Traders Several months ago I read an article in Quilting Arts Magazine about PSI's or plus sized inchies. At the end of the article it had a yahoo group that you could join if you were interested in doing exchanges/challenges. There are also some really fun postcard exchanges, you can join mine at yahoo groups postcard pizzazz. I can honestly tell you that you will not meet a nicer group of people then this. I was pretty intimidated after looking at the photo's in the yahoo group because the members are amazing artists. Until I quickly figured out that we are all in our own place in our art journey. With each trade that I participate in I can see how my art has changed and grown. Each week usually on Wednesdays, they post a new exchange. You can participate in as many or as few as you would like. Below I will continue to post photos of what I made for the challenges I participate in. You sign up to participate in the groups database, then post your photo once your piece of art is completed. Then on a predetermined date the "host" of the trade randomly assignes partners and that is who you mail your little piece of art off to and in turn, someone mails you theirs. It is just too much fun and a fantastic way to grow your art and try new techniques that you might not have been exposed to otherwise. The yahoo groups address is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FiberArtTraders/ My other favorite group is the Dallas Stampers- we meet the first Monday of the month at the Stamp Asylum in Plano Texas. Each month a member of the group shares a technique and we make a project. And...if you want to trade, each person brings 5 of an item in the theme that is chosen by the teacher that month. I have received so many wonderful little pieces of art from people all over the world and love each and every one of them. Out of respect for the artists I trade with, I will only post photos of exchange items received, if I have written permission from the artist.
Fiber Art Challenges & Exchanges - Eyemask Challenge- We made eyemasks from a pattern provided. We could decorate them up any way that we wanted too. This one is mine. I made it from some really pretty hand dyed fabrics then free motion stitched a sun shape close to where each eye would be. - School Daze Post Card Exchange- We could make 1-5 post cards with the theme school daze. I made three cards. The first card was inspired by one of my twins Madeline who wants to take the little yellow school bus so bad it hurts. The second and third cards made with vintage school book items. Those two post cards were inpired by school "shoes". With three children I always seem to be buying shoes for school. We should buy stock in a shoe company. - Fall Charms Exchange- This was a real challenge for me. I had never made charms before. The challenge was to make 1-5 "fall" themed charms to exchange. There is a great article in May/June 2007 Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine by Ruth Rae "Sew Charming" that shows several techniques for making mixed media charms. The charmes in the article were made from fabric, lace, ribbons, transparencies, beads, organza, flowers and all kinds of goodies. - Dreams Tag Exchange- We had the option to make 1-5 tags with the theme dreams. The suggestion was to make tag(s) about things that we dreamed about. Perhaps a trip, somthing we wanted to purchase, own, maybe a new addition to the family. Lately I have been dreaming about adding more beauty into our home. By adding more pretty things to look at on our walls and by eliminate the sight pollution (All the extra junk that is just taking up space and not very nice to look at). So when I made my tags I thought about a beautiful day with dreamy blue clouds. Each tag has a silver key to remind us all to use the key to unlock the creativity from within us Asian Exchange with Dallas Stampers I made fabric fortune cookies with Michael Miller Fabric Paper. Fall Exchange with Dallas Stampers at Stamp Asylum Our challenge was to make a "Fall" Theme Goodie.
Tea Party Hat I made this hat for the Garland Quilt Guild 2007 Founders Tea. I won an adorable tea pot and some charming tea sewing/quiting patterns for most creative hat.
