Custom
Sewing Labels
Custom sewing labels are a way to help give garments or accessories that you
make, a more polished and professional feel, in addition to letting your
customers know more about your brand. Many sewing labels are fairly simple, but
some are more decorative and really stand out in the crowd. Labels are typically
made from fabric and have simple or fancy script stitched into it.
A label created to sew into a garment may include a few bits of important
information, such as the following:
-Garment Size
-Garment Material
-Where Garment was Made
-How to Care for the Garment
-Name of the Designer or Brand
The name of the designer or brand is one of the most important things found on a
custom sewing label, because it is the face and representative of what your work
stands for. The nature, size, and even colors chosen to make your sewing label,
let customers know if your clothing is expensive, for kids, sophisticated,
casual, or more on the bohemian side.
Types of Sewing Labels
There are usually two types of sew in labels that are used in apparel and
accessories.
The first label is the main label, which has the name of the
designer or name of the line inside. Typically below the name of the designer or
brand, the place where the apparel line was created or started is written
underneath. Letters are usually decorative cursive, or a nice crisp readable
font. The main label displaying the brand name is usually folded at the edges
and sewn down, or can also be sewn completely in a rectangle shape, completely
around the label. Some labels can be made as a screen print, a second form of
labeling, and not traditionally stitched onto a fabric strip at all.
Second label that depicts the size of the garment, and how to care instructions
is another important label sewn into the back of a garment. The letters are
usually more plain, and in bold dark lettering, so as to stand out to the
customer. It is not important that the letters be very fancy for the how to care
garment label, but reflect an instructional nature.
Labels as a Trademark
A trademark helps define a product, identify it, and protect it. Typically the
way a label has its name displayed, is in fact the trademark used by a designer
or apparel house. Trademarks are both a branding tool, used to shape the image
and presentation of a garment for the customer, and keep a house in line with
its perception and focus.
How To Make A Custom Sew In Label
Thanks to the internet, you can find many companies that are willing to work
with small fashion designers and even big fashion houses, to create the perfect
sew in label. You can choose from fancy script in gold or silver metallic
threads, or opt for less sophistication with a simpler palate of color choices
in a basic thread. Typically turn around time for a minimum of 100 custom
labels, with two lines of script may take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks to be
processed, printed, and delivered to your door. If you have a deadline to meet,
it is best to order your labels early, and if possible get proofs sent to you,
before continuing to order a large amount of labels.
Custom labels are a form of advertising, branding, and add a sincere look of
professionalism to apparel. A designer that is looking to make a good impression
on their customers and peers alike, should recognize the importance of having a
superior quality label, to match the quality of their product. In the fleeting

surpass your work. It is critical that a good solid concept and design is used
when making a label to let the world know who you and your product is. A durable
custom label, with a wow factor in color, sizing, and craftsmanship really helps
